In 2010 I described the Crow album as "... songs drenched in emotion – lots of pain and misery, sure, but also joy, passion and love", and having performed them many times over, they still feel the same. Some of them, like Magpie and Crow, are full of metaphor and imagery, while songs like Butterfly Girl and Days To Come couldn't be more plain.

I met trumpeter Chuck Dearness a year or so before the album began to take shape, but I immediately knew I needed to get him to play on it. His playing lifts the songs in ways I hadn't and couldn't have imagined. Andy Gilmour on the other hand was a bass player I'd worked with for years, so I knew exactly what he'd bring, and just how important that would be to the sound of the thing.
